Family visit recap

I'm sure you've just been dying to know what marvelous things I did with my family when they visited last week. Come on, you can't fool me.

Some of my family (Mom, Dad, Christy and Bryan -- yes, my BIL's name is the same as my husband's, only with a "y") arrived two weeks ago for a whirlwind tour of Vienna. This was Bryan's first trip to Europe and Christy's first trip to Vienna, so I knew I had to impress. And I think I was pretty successful. Just look at their expressions of shock and awe at they exited the subway station and caught their first glimpse of Stephansdom.

Full disclosure: Yes, I asked them to act shocked and awed for the photo op. I'm sure you could tell that from the photo. But the truth is I stole the idea from the Hunters because I thought it was so cute when I saw it on their blog. But I'm not sure if you get the same cuteness from two grownups. Sorry Christy and Bryan.

When I asked my sister what she wanted to do in Vienna, she said she wanted to go to that place my family went last year with the big sword of food. Who cares that the city is full of art and architecture and history and whatnot -- bring on the food.

We also hit a couple of ice cream places, our favorite local cafe, and a few other traditional Austrian food restaurants. And when we had time, we saw a few sights in and around the city. The day before they left we took a short day trip to see some of the small towns near Vienna. We trained for about an hour to Melk, then cruised down the Danube to Krems to catch a train back to Vienna. I'll be posting some of the photos from our sightseeing around Vienna and our day trip on the Almost Daily Vienna blog over the next week or two.

And I'll leave you with this clip of my favorite street performers.
