Baby's got new shoes

Remember the shoes I showed you on Saturday? Well, I finally got around to making another pair for Emmy. One side is chocolate with tiny red, pink, white and blue flowers. The soles are pink.

Why yes, that is the lovely hippo fabric in the background.

The other side is white with colorful flowers. Also with pink soles. This is the same fabric I used for the original shoes. Since I'm new at sewing, I don't have a stash of fabrics to select from. Although, all the fabric for these shoes came from my scraps box. That's another great thing about the shoes -- you don't need much fabric.

Please don't wear them like this. Pick brown or white, not one of each.

And just for fun, here's the classic front- and side-view photo. I don't know why, but I have to take a photo with the shoes positioned like this. It's a compulsion. I can't resist it. So now you must look at it.

Just in case you missed it the last time, these shoes are based on a tutorial at Bare Maked. If you know of any little baby toes that need some cover, check out the tutorial. I enlarged the pattern by 10%, but that was too much. They ended up looking really long, but not too wide. So I shortened them a bit and it all worked out. Well, I don't know whether they'll fit Emmy, but then I've never seen her feet.

My apron pattern arrived today, so I hope to give it a try this weekend. Don't worry, this blog won't become completely devoted to sewing. I'm also planning on making some journals soon. Okay, just kidding -- it's not going to be just about crafting. But I do have a great journal idea brewing. And I will be telling you about it. But that will have to wait -- maybe a month or so.

I am LOVING these little shoes and can't wait to see Emmy sporting them at church. I may have to check out that pattern.

You know, I have a lot of shoe-related complusions (mostly buying too many of them, especially red ones), but I've never felt the need to photograph them in any particular pose. But I bet if I tried it, I'd like it.

(Those shoes are wicked cute, by the way. I love the brown side.)

I am so impressed with your sewing masterpieces; you have inspired me to go sew something. Now, if only I had a sewing machine...or knew how to sew.

I have been think about making some myself, what sort of fabric did you use for the soles?

Wow, thanks for all the kind words.

Lisa - You can be my spy and let me know whether Emmy really wears them!

Gina - Be warned, if you position your shoes like this once, you'll never be able to stop.

Emily - Those are minor obstacles to overcome.

Suzanne - Thanks!

Chickpea - For this pair, I used felt. Although it was difficult to work with and I probably won't use it again. For the last pair, I used the same material that I used for the rest of the shoe -- so one side was cotton and the other side was fleece. I read somewhere (I've looked at several shoe patterns) that if the child is walking, you should use leather for the sole. However, if the shoes are only going to be worn indoors, I imagine leather soles are not essential. Although you might want to add something to make them anti-slip. Not sure.
