Photo from Kiva. This is Hawa Afia. She's 60, a widow and lives in Ghana. She's a fishmonger and sells used clothing from a shed in the local market to help support her family and send her children to school. With the microloan she received from me and about 20 other people, she'll be able to expand her business and buy more fish from the wholesaler.
I was familiar with Kiva for a long time before I decided to make a loan. I don't know what was holding me back. If you've been considering it (or even if you've never heard of Kiva until now!), I encourage you to just do it. It's easy to create an account and you can loan as little as $25. Once the loan has been repaid, you can loan the money to someone else. And every month you'll receive an email with an update on your loan repayment. :)

Hey! Thanks for posting on our blog. I love comments and to know who is reading it! I swear comments are the best part of blogging! :) That and to keep my family updated!
What agency are you going through to adopt from ET? Ethiopian kids are the best. What age group are you requesting and boy or girl?
I remember seeing you at OC but don't think I ever really got to talk to you. Your husband looks familiar also. Now I can read your blog! I can't wait to hear how things are going with your adoption. For us it was a LONG wait but well worth it. Waiting for the referral and the court date were by far the worst parts of our adoption. Getting the referral and through court were the best parts of the wait. How long have you waited now?
Thanks for the comment! Send me your email address and I'll add you to the private blog that has all this information. You can get my email address from my profile.
hi, just tried to e-mail you from that address on your blog, but it won't let me :-(
nice to meet you. we're here in the southern part of Germany (Bavaria) very close to the Czech border.
i would like to follow your adoption journey as well (I assume it's your 3rd blog). i have a private journal as well about our adoption I may publish once we're done with everything (baby home and immigrated etc). we ran into way way to many problems and it took us about a year to get our 171 approval (not our fault, need to mention that). our agency is great, we had no problems with them, just the 3rd party that is involved, lol ;-) anyhow, my e-mail is supermel2275@yahoo.com.
would be nice to hear from you and get an invite. maybe we will meet in Toukoul since we have such similar time frames -
God bless,
mel
