Domestic Diva

Yesterday Brian and I stayed in since we've been doing a lot of running around over the past week. So I decided to do a little cooking and cleaning. I washed a load of clothes -- which takes about two hours (for the machine, not for me) -- then hung the clothes to dry. I did a lot of laundry during the summers I spent in Germany and one of the big differences is that in Germany you hang the clothes outside to dry and in Austria (Vienna, at least) you hang the clothes on racks inside. I imagine this difference is due to the fact that Vienna is such a large city and densely populated more so than the difference in laundry techniques between Germany and Austria. I also ironed some of our clothes -- practically everything has to be ironed since we're not using a dryer.

Yesterday was also the first time I attempted to cook a meal at home -- tortellini and pasta sauce. I didn't actually make the tortellini, but I made the sauce from scratch so I'm counting the whole meal. It was pretty tasty.

On a different note...

It's amazing how many churches and cathedrals you see around here. The picture below is a church in the neighborhood where Brian and I are staying. We generally walk past it a couple of times a day when we take Shark Dog out. I was always impressed at the number of cars park around the building and thought they must have a pretty active group that meets there. That is, until I realized one night that nothing was going on at the church. It looks like the cars belong to people who live in the surrounding apartment buildings. It's sad that the church has become nothing more than a parking lot.

Does it get very cold in Vienna in the winter? Humid? If so beware that you could always smell of mildew. We're still not in our apartment, but a soon as i have the time i'l have quite the blog entry about our adventures.

It's hard to know exactly how cold it gets in Vienna. I get a lot of conflicting reports. In the last two weeks there has been some humidity, I can tell you that. But nothing too terribly bad. It has rained about once a day for about 15 minutes and then it stops. I am anxiously awaiting to hear about your journey to the Cuse.

So far the weather has been pretty mild, but the BBC weather centre (that's right, the weather centre) is forecasting a high of 39 degrees celsius on Monday. That's about 102 in fahrenheit. That's pretty uncomfortable without a/c.

The meal looks great! I'm doing laundry right now and feel so blessed to have a washing machine AND Dryer. I hate ironing! I'm glad you converted 39 degrees for us. The last few reports on Daniel was his temperature was 39 degrees celsius. I had no idea if that was good or bad. Even though it's above normal it's not outrageously high. He was cleared to fly today. I'm sure it will be a long flight for all of them (30 hours traveling). He will be admitted to the hospital upon arriving at DFW. Love you.. What about the apartment? Did you get one?

Looks yummy! I made spinach stuffed manicotti the other day, with ceasar salad and breadsticks. It was quite delicous. Of course, I had the luxury of not having to make it all from scratch, but it wasn't from a box either :)
Oh yeah, and we ate it at our dining room table--woo hoo, the dining room is clean!!

Mom - Keep me updated on Daniel. I'm sure his family is glad to get him back to the States.

Brad & Stacey - It's great weather for ice cream! I'll email you.

Christy - Sounds yummy. I didn't have to make the pasta sauce from scratch as they have it in a jar, but it's really easy and taste better from scratch. However, I wasn't able to find alfredo sauce in a jar and I wanted to use it with a chicken dish.
