This is the control panel for my washer and dryer. (Sorry for the bad photo -- the kitchen is very narrow and there wasn't room to get one photo, so I had to splice some together.) Have you ever seen so many buttons?! I have yet to figure out what most of the buttons do, but at least I understand the "Start" button. As far as I can tell, this is how you wash a load of clothes:
Step 1 - Turn on the water. The knob is located next to the kitchen sink.
Step 2 - Open the door on the washer and cram your clothes in. Go ahead and add some more clothes, they will fit. And a few more things -- if you can still close the door then there's still room for more.
Step 3 - Select the cycle and temperature. This is the far right knob on the control panel. The first one is cook/multi-color. I have no idea what it means by "cook", but I haven't been able to find an alternate meaning to "Koch". Next is wash and wear and the one of the bottom is wool. Each cycle has several temperature options.
Step 4 - Add detergent and fabric softener. These both go in a drawer to the left of the control panel.
Step 5 - Close the door to the washer and press the Start button.
Step 6 - Wait. For a long time. A very long time. It will take at least an hour and a half to wash the load.
Step 7 - Now you can either run the dryer, or pull the clothes out and hang them to dry. I ran the dryer the first time (because I couldn't figure out how to open the door -- you have to turn it off ("Aus") before you can open the door) and after an hour I still had to hang the clothes. The knob on the left (with the red numbers) sets the time for the dryer and the knob on the right sets the heat (also, in red).
Step 8 - Turn right knob to Aus to turn off washer. You can know open the door to remove the clothes.
Step 9 - Turn off the water using the knob by the sink.
Now you may have noticed that I only used one of the buttons (Start). So what are all the other buttons for? Seriously folks, if you have any ideas, I'd like to know. I also haven't figured out what the settings on the bottom left side of the right knob are for.
Keep adding your questions to the previous post or sending them via email. I'll start answering them later this week.

Here's my contribution to helping figure out the washing machine... Vor-wasche is pre-wash (or soak), wasser plus is 'lots of water'..maybe 'large load'.
Hope you don't ruin too many clothes before you figure it all out. That's a lot of controls to deal with. Here's one more -- Pflegeleicht is wash & wear.
I am glad that my new washer is straight forward (and in English). Good luck with all those buttons!
I have a hard enough time figuring out how to keep my clothes in-tact and unshrunk without translating.
When I lived in Vienna, we discovered that they use water that is way hotter than we use, so you might want to stay away from that unless you want your clothes to fit Sharkdog.
Mom - I didn't know you knew so much German! I used the "eco" the first time because it wasn't a full load and I thought it would use less water. But after about two hours I realized that it wasn't going through the cycles. So I just pressed some more buttons until it started doing something else.
Candace - An English manual would be so helpful! I searched online, but with no luck.
Gina - From what I've read online (I'm a master researcher), the water is heated by the machine. So as long as I set the temperature correctly on the washer, I'll be okay. The hottest temperature is 90C, which is about 195F. I think the temperature for U.S. machine depends on the settings for your hot water heater - using 120F to 140F.
